Dallas Cowboys Rolando McClain will not practice today

Dallas Cowboys middle linebacker Rolando McClain was not able to continue his hot start to the season last week, as he suffered a groin injury and was never expected to suit up. The St. Louis Rams gave the Cowboys quite a scare, but DeMarco Murray had another strong performance on the ground and the Cowboys pulled one out 34-31. Cornerback Morris Claiborne has been a hot topic of discussion over the past couple of days, but the biggest key for the Cowboys defense right now is the health of someone who is actually starting and, you know, playing well.

According to Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas, McClain will not practice today, though nobody should have expected him to get work in today. It’s the first practice of the week, and McClain was listed doubtful on the injury report before the Rams game. His status is totally up-in-the-air, and we probably won’t have a good idea of his status until Friday, unless if he is able to practice tomorrow. It’s still early, but I’m tentatively expecting him to suit up this week in a huge matchup against Jimmy Graham, Pierre Thomas, Khiry Robinson, and the New Orleans Saints.

McClain would be a huge loss for the Cowboys if he is unable to play against the Saints, because not only has he emerged as a crucial part of this defense, but his unique athleticism allows him to be a huge factor as a playmaker in pass coverage. A small gamble that has paid off huge dividends for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, McClain currently has 15 tackles, a sack, and an interception as an ace playmaking MLB; hopefully the unquestionably talented Alabama product can keep it up.
