Minnesota Vikings Harrison Smith had MRI, no ‘significant’ damage

Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith is blossoming into a star before our eyes, as he already has three interceptions, six passes defended, a sack, and 26 tackles (21 of them are solo tackles) this season, as he is one of the best all-around safeties in the game. I’d wager that he’s the Vikings best player on defense, but hopefully that isn’t seen as a slight to the likes of Brian Robison and Everson Griffen. In fact, it’s clear to me that not only is Smith the clear class of the Vikings DBs, but he’s the guy most people look forward to watching the most on the Vikings defense.

  • Hopefully we can watch him next week against the rival Detroit Lions, because he picked up an ankle injury in yesterday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. Although he was spotted in crutches and a walking boot, the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Master Tesfatsion reports Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer stated that Smith’s MRI didn’t show any “significant damage”.

This is obviously excellent news for the Vikings, but it still doesn’t give us any clarity on Smith’s status going forward, particularly for that important Week 6 contest. He has a long week to get ready, but it will be interesting to see if the Vikings play it safe with one of their best players or feel desperate to allow him to receive clearance. More importantly, we don’t know the true extent or exact nature of the injury at this time.
