Mike Williams says Buffalo Bills made him a healthy scratch

Now this is a shocker. Buffalo Bills wide receiver Mike Williams was not listed on the injury report with any sort of ailment, and yet he posted on Instagram that he will not be playing today, indicating that it was a coach’s decision. Per Williams, the Bills opted against placing him on the active roster, and it’s an especially peculiar decision considering that the Bills are facing the rival New England Patriots today; I wonder if Doug Marrone and Williams have rekindled the bad blood that arose from their days at Syracuse.

Here’s the post:

Bizarre, huh? Williams has caught just eight passes for 142 yards and a touchdown this season, though his 17+ yards per reception rate shows that he has brought some playmaking value to the table for the Bills since coming over from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for just a sixth-round pick.

Again, it’s unclear why Williams has been a healthy scratch, and I think plenty of people will want to see if off-field issues or locker room tensions could be involved; Williams didn’t exactly leave Tampa Bay on the best of terms with either the new or old regime. He was targeted just twice against the Detroit Lions last week, so it’s more likely that the Bills simply don’t like him as a player as much. Either way, it’s still weird and surprising.
