Dallas Cowboys Tyron Smith will try to practice

Dallas Cowboys franchise left tackle Tyron Smith is the anchor of the NFL’s best offensive line, and his importance has increased with steady right tackle Doug Free out for a few weeks with a foot injury. Smith, however, is also hurt, as he suffered an ankle injury in his incredibly dominant display against the Seattle Seahawks, and the injury prevented him from practicing yesterday. He needed to undergo an MRI, and the good news is that his ankle injury isn’t a dreaded high-ankle sprain, which is a multi-week issue.

  • According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Charean Williams, the MRI did indeed present the left tackle with some “good news”, as he will try to practice today after being unable to participate in individual drills yesterday. The Cowboys face the New York Giants this week, and they have the kind of defensive line that can present a challenge for Smith if he isn’t healthy.

There’s no doubt that Smith is earning every penny he’s making on his new contract extension, as he is once again playing at an elite level. The performance he pulled in Week 6 against the Seahawks was masterful in every sense, and he is easily one of the game’s most talented pass protectors. His absence against the Giants would be a tough loss, but it looks like we should anticipate him playing; his status will likely be decided at tomorrow’s practice.
