Baltimore Ravens Will Hill set to make debut

Baltimore Ravens free safety Will Hill is easily one of the most talented players in the league at the position, but constant off-field issues related to marijuana arrests have severely hurt his ability to make an impact. One more arrest could even cause Hill to be out of the league, though it’s hard to believe given his talent; it seems like someone will always give him a chance. The Ravens certainly did, as they signed Hill back in late July after the New York Giants grew sick of his act after another arrest, and the flier could prove to be an excellent one for Ozzie Newsome and the organization if the former Florida Gator can stay out of trouble.

  • Per a source close to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens are placing him on the active roster and are planning on handing him his season debut this week against the Atlanta Falcons. Hill will have his hands full against Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, but the Falcons offense only managed to put up 13 points against a worse defense last week thanks to some shodding blocking and a lack of a running game. With Roddy White struggling mightily, Hill will likely be tasked to spend most of his time shading Jones and preventing deep throws to Devin Hester.

The Ravens secondary could quietly become a juggernaut, as they already have two of the best cornerbacks in the game in Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith, who has become a shutdown corner. Hill is one of the league’s best safeties in deep coverage, and Ryan would be wise to avoid him and pick on second-year strong safety Matt Elam instead. I don’t think Hill will be limited in his debut, but it will be interesting to see how many snaps he gets.
