Charlie Whitehurst will start, Jake Locker ruled out

Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker was listed questionable for another week, but he was still always expected to miss today’s game against the Washington Redskins. The Titans seem perfectly fine with resting Locker until he can prove that he is fully healthy, and it will be interesting to see if he is finally able to play when the Titans face off against the rival Houston Texans next week.

  • For now, Whitehurst will get another start today against the Redskins, and it will be interesting to see if he can have some success against one of the NFL’s worst pass defenses. This is the kind of game that Justin Hunter can dominate, as the second-year wide receiver out of Tennessee has shown plenty of flashes, as he made some big plays in last week’s narrow 16-14 win over the rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Hunter’s biggest issue is consistency, but the big plays can definitely make up for it.

So far this season, Whitehurst has completed just 58.3% of his passes, taking  a total of 72 attempts in his three appearances with three touchdowns and just one interception to his name. Despite the sub-60% completion percentage, Whitehurst is averaging a robust 8.4 yards per attempt, and he has put up a little over 200 yards per game on average.
