Ray Rice appeal set for November 5-6

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice is currently serving his indefinite suspension for brutally punching his wife in an elevator, and it will be forever known as one of the most infamous moments in recent NFL history. Rice should have trouble getting back into the league, but there’s a chance his pth to returning to the football field will be less arduous than expected. Plenty of reports swirled last month about how Rice would attack his appeal, with some believing that that the NFL’s lackadaisical handling of the incident would benefit Rice.

The NFL Network’s Albert Breer reports that Rice’s appeal hearing will be scheduled for the 5th-6th of November, where he will look to overturn his indefinite suspension. There’s actually a chance of him winning the appeal and being reinstated next month, which has led to speculation that an RB-needy team could take the plunge while trying to withstand the PR mess head of them. But if some people within the NFL were stupid enough to call Michael Sam a potential distraction, then Ray Rice is undoubtedly the distraction of the century.

Rice averaged just 3.1 yards per carry last season, and even though he’s a much more talented rusher than his most recent average indicates, I just don’t see how he would be worth it. There has been speculation that the Stevan Ridley-less New England Patriots could make a “That’s so Belichick” move by signing Rice, but I think/hope that we won’t even have to have this discussion, as I don’t expect him to win the appeal. But we’ll get our answer in a couple of weeks.
