Bernard Pierce, Aaron Dobson healthy scratches

The Baltimore Ravens are done with running back Bernard Pierce, who showed so much promise as a rookie out of Temple in 2012, averaging 4.9 yards per carry on 108 attempts. He was dreadful last season behind a terrible offensive line, but the improvements on the line this offseason have only brought minimal results for the disappointing back. Pierce has two rushing touchdowns this season, but those hardly make up for a subpar average of 3.6 yards per attempt, and he’s been thoroughly outplayed by veteran change-of-pace RB Justin Forsett and hard-nosed, impressive rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Ravens have named Pierce a healthy scratch for today’s game against the rival Cincinnati Bengals, and Taliaferro seems to be ready to shoulder the load for the Ravens with help from Forsett. Taliaferro has plenty of fantasy upside with Pierce out, and he’s a major threat to rack up touchdowns.

Per ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss, the New England Patriots have ruled second-year wide receiver Aaron Dobson inactive for today’s big game against the Chicago Bears, and that means Dobson has been made a healthy scratch yet again. The still-promising Marshall product has clearly fallen hard in New England, and the coaching staff has really soured on him. Brian Tyms and Brandon LaFell have both outplayed Dobson, who desperately needs to show some sort of consistency in order to get back on track. A healthy scratch last week, Dobson has just three receptions for 38 yards in three appearances.
