The Saints Should Get Mark Ingram More Touches

After an amazing day on the field, should the New Orleans Saints look to flip the script on their game plan and get the ball to Mark  Ingram more?

Mark Ingram had a career afternoon on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers when he finished the day with 172 yards rushing and a touchdown on 24 carries. That performance helped bring a win to the Saints over the Pack and should get the team thinking about shifting their game plan.

With the win, the Saints jump right in the hunt for the NFC South. They are sitting a half game behind the Carolina Panthers, but have the same amount of wins and losses as them. The Panthers have played an extra game and finished that game with a tie.

The Saints have struggled this season and could use a new personality on offense. They will do whatever they can to get wins. They are right in the hunt, but still hold a losing record.

With Ingram exploding in that performance against the Packers, they need to look to get him the ball more. With him running the ball at that rate, the team would be able to milk the clock more and keep their defense on the sideline. Ingram has never really had many opportunities to be a go-to back in his career with the team.

In his career with the Saints, Sunday marked only the second time that he had more than 20 carries in a game. They need to get him the rock more. They need to give him opportunities to put the team on his back. Drew Brees is still an unbelievable quarterback, but a little help in the running game could be a nice weight off of his shoulders. Let Ingram take some of that weight. He has the ability to make it happen if they just trust him.

Ingram becomes a free agent at the end of the season. If the team starts to give him more opportunities in the run game, it could convince him to stay on the roster. If he doesn’t get the love, he likely will be looking to find that opportunity somewhere else.

Should Ingram get more touches for the Saints?
