With Thanksgiving two weeks away, Americans are beginning to reflect on their blessings. For those of us fortunate enough to afford it, we will enjoy a warm, traditional Thanksgiving dinner consisting of turkey, stuffing, and vegetables. However,  there are many families that do not make enough money to buy these Hallmark Thanksgiving dishes for a meal. Luckily, thanks to the altruistic efforts of New York Giants Walter Thurmond and a few organizations in New York, some of those families will be able to enjoy a simple pleasure that so many people take for granted.

On Tuesday, November 18th, The Walter Thurmond Foundation for Arts and Education will join hands with Whole Foods, The RoseMark Group, and The Children’s Village to co-sponsor the Third Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive. The event, which is hosted annually by The Children’s Village Organization, a charity that provides a safe haven, support services and a caring community for vulnerable children and their families, will take place at the Organization’s Polo Grounds Community Center, located at 3005 Eighth Avenue in New York City, at 6:30 p.m.

Jaclyn Rosenberg, the CEO of The RoseMark Group, first became involved with The Children’s Village five years ago. Rosenberg, who was adopted as a child, serves on the Junior Board of The Children’s Village and is dedicated to providing NYC youth with opportunities that will shape a bright future for them. The RoseMark Group, a nationwide real estate firm that specializes in athlete relocation, first connected with New York Giant Walter Thurmond when it helped him relocate to New York after he inked a one-year deal with the New York Giants this past March after Thurmond became a Super Bowl Champion with the Seattle Seahawks in February.

Through their time working together, Thurmond learned of Rosenberg’s philanthropic work with The Children’s Village, which is dedicated to assisting inner city youth become “educationally proficient, economically productive, and socially responsible members of their communities” (The Children’s Village). The Walter Thurmond Foundation for Arts and Education strives to improve the quality of life for youth. While The Foundation’s primary focus is youth literacy in inner-city schools, its overall mission is to produce productive citizens within the community by empowering inner-city youth through various sports, fashion, and art programs in order to improve the overall education and well-being of the community’s less fortunate children.

Walter Thurmond, who is very dedicated to giving back to the community and being selfless, welcomes any opportunity that offers him the rewarding chance to interact with and assist the less fortunate members of the community. With the similarities that his foundation shares in its mission and work with that of The Children’s Village, it makes perfect sense for these two organizations to collaborate for such a great cause. They will combine forces with Whole Foods to feed over 3000 families at the event Tuesday, giving away 500 turkeys along with a bag of organic holiday sides.

"” Walter is a warm person with a kind spirit. I couldn’t be happier that his foundation is part of this great cause for the third year running.”, says Jaclyn Rosenberg. “Grateful to have him as a client, even more grateful to have him help this community I hold so dear to my heart.”"

The Walter Thurmond Foundation is encouraging anyone that is able to volunteer their time on Tuesday, November 18th,  to come out and join Walter Thurmond and his partnering organizations in extending their generosity to those families in need. Volunteers are being asked to arrive at the Polo Grounds Community Center at 4:00p.m. to help with the setup of the event.

If you are unable to attend the event, you can still support this worthy cause in multiple ways! In order to help cover the costs of the event, The Walter Thurmond Foundation is auctioning an exclusive package that will provide one lucky bidder (and a guest) with the ultimate game-day VIP experience. Included in the package are two tickets to the the November 23rd NY Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys division matchup at Metlife Stadium, field passes for pre-game access to the field, and a post-game dinner with New York Giant Walter Thurmond III. With all proceeds raised from this auction supporting the turkey drive, not only are you getting an amazing experience, but you’re contributing to a noteworthy cause!
