Denver Broncos: Defense won’t save them vs. Packers

The Denver Broncos face a true test tonight on Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately for the Broncos, their defense won’t save them tonight like they have been able to so far this season.

A big reason why the Broncos are undefeated at 6-0 is largely due to how great their defense has been. They’ve totaled a league-leading 26.0 sacks and have a knack at getting to opposing quarterbacks with ease and precision. They’ve come close to defeat but again, their stout defense saves the day.

They’ve been winning games thanks to their defense but unfortunately, it won’t be enough to stop another undefeated team in the Green Bay Packers. Unlike the Broncos, they have a more complete all-around team that will definitely capitalize on their mistakes, especially at the expense of quarterback Peyton Manning

More from Denver Broncos

It’s no secret that Manning is on the decline of his prolific and Hall of Fame career. So far this season, Manning has totaled 1,524 passing yards on 146 completions for 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

His QBR is at an all-time career low at 43.36 entering this huge game against the Packers tonight on Sunday Night Football.

So far, the Broncos might be undefeated but Manning has already started the season poorly and as it progresses, these turnovers will eventually come back to haunt them. Considering he’s already had 3 interceptions returned for touchdowns, it surely must be frustrating to all members of the Broncos’ defense.

Winning fixes everything but remember, eventually turnovers catch up to you and if they start racking up losses thanks to interceptions turning into points due to Manning’s decline in play, the Broncos will have much bigger problems in the grand scheme of things.

Due to not being able to establish the running game, it will be an incredibly hard task to expect the Broncos to keep up with the high-octane Packers that are clicking on all cylinders. The Packers are playing some impressive football on offense, defense and even special teams.

If Manning goes on to continue his turnover streak and the Broncos’ defense has to be on the field much longer than they’d like, it will expose the glaring truth that defense can only get you so far if your offense can’t keep those chains moving. The Broncos are once again relying on winning games thanks to Manning but while it’s been working out so far this season, trust me when I say it’s not going to work against the better teams the NFL has to offer like the Packers.

Once the Broncos’ defense plays the better teams like they will tonight, it’ll absolutely bring them back down to reality. Originally this season, the game plan was to commit to the run and put Manning in a better position to preserve him all season long. With 237 attempts so far this season, it’s clear Manning isn’t the quarterback he use to be and will continue to air it out more than he’s supposed to.

Due to this tonight, the Broncos’ defense will be in for a rude awakening thanks to everything Rodgers will bring to the table. The Packers, even without Eddie Lacy tearing it up due to an ankle injury and other injuries to their wide receiver corps, twill continue to be a force to reckon with offensively. The Broncos’ defense won’t be able to save them tonight like in the past and it”ll eventually lead to the thought of life without Manning under center in the near future because of it.
