A recent 2016 NFL Mock Draft has the St. Louis Rams selecting wide receiver Laquon Treadwell with the 15th overall pick. Treadwell is a stud, but is this the right move for St. Louis?

With the 2015 NFL regular season behind us, mock draft season is starting to heat up. Bleacher Report’s NFL Draft Lead Writer Matt Miller kicked things off with a first round 2016 NFL Mock Draft that was released on Monday morning. Miller is among the best in the business, and it his entire mock draft is extremely interesting.

One pick that particularly stood out to me as a potentially dynamic fit was the St. Louis Rams selection of Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell with the 15th overall pick. First, let’s hear why Miller went this way for St. Louis:

"The St. Louis Rams could go in any number of directions here. Quarterback, wide receiver, linebacker and defensive back all rank as legitimate first-round needs. What it all comes down to is the best player on the board, then, and that’s wide receiver Laquon Treadwell from Ole Miss. The Rams got good production from Tavon Austin in 2015, but the need for a true No. 1 wide receiver still exists. And Treadwell is like a leaner Alshon Jeffery with his physical style of play and ability to out-muscle defensive backs for contested passes. There are many unsettled positions in St. Louis—and even an uncertain future as to where this team will play—but reaching for a quarterback here isn’t the answer long-term."

The most obvious need on the Rams’ roster is at quarterback. However, with Paxton Lynch going to the Dallas Cowboys and Jared Goff going to the San Francisco 49ers earlier in Miller’s mock draft, any quarterback that Rams take at 15 would be a reach. They are better off continuing to collect elite talent at other positions, as they wait for an opportunity to find their franchise quarterback.

Laquon Treadwell is a physical specimen who will immediately give the Rams a true number one wide receiver. I love this pick, and think Treadwell is a perfect fit for what the Rams are trying to do.

Treadwell is a big and physical receiver who is seemingly always open on the field. Even if he is being defended by tough coverage, Treadwell does an incredible job of fighting defenders for the ball, and a huge majority of the time, he wins the fight.

With great size, strength, athleticism and a natural ability to catch the ball, Treadwell is an extremely intriguing prospect at the next level, and he will add an explosive dynamic to the Rams’ offense. With running back Todd Gurley seemingly ready to break-out in a big way next season, and WR Tavon Austin finally showing his explosive ability in 2015, adding Treadwell to the mix would give the Rams an elite set of play-makers.

Finding that franchise quarterback needs to be at the top of the Rams’ wish list, but they simply do not seem to be in a great position to find him this season. Adding Treadwell to their impressive mix of talent across the roster would be a great decision for St. Louis.
