We are exactly 77 days from the start of the NFL season. Hopefully those 77 days are filled with sandy beaches and delicious barbecues. Also, I hope you spend the next 77 days reading NFL Spin Zone’s player profiles.

Here, we started our Countdown to Kickoff series with a look at the newest San Diego Charger, number 99 Joey Bosa, and we’ve profiled one player everyday since (find all of the profile’s here).

Cordy Glenn is a very wealthy man. In May of this year, after signing the franchise tender that the was placed on him, the four year veteran signed a five-year, $65 million contract extension with the team that drafted him, the Buffalo Bills.

Heading into the 2012 NFL draft, Glenn may have thought that signing a gigantic deal as a tackle was a long-shot. Many NFL scouts and draft analysts were touting Glenn as a better guard prospect than a tackle. This is what NFL’s draft expert, Mike Mayock, had to say (via NFL.com):

"I think he’s better suited for the right side. I don’t think he’s got left-tackle feet, and he could be a Pro Bowl guard if the Bills ever decide to move him inside."

There were even reports (such as Bleacher Report’s Sigmund Bloom) that then-Bills’ general manager, Buddy Nix, thought Glenn was a better fit at guard. With hindsight as our guide, we now know that Nix’s comments were nothing more than a smokescreen and it definitely worked. The Bills drafted Glenn in the second round at 41st overall.

Since 2012, Glenn has started 61 of 64 games, and has solidified the left tackle position on the Bills roster, a position that had been in flux for several seasons prior to Glenn’s arrival.

In 2015, Pro Football Focus ranked Glenn 10th among all tackles in the NFL. This ranking was bolstered by his 5th ranked Pass Blocking statistic, while Glenn only ranked as the 37th best Run Blocking tackle. Glenn’s less than stellar run-blocking grade is surprising given how well Buffalo ran the Ball in 2016 (4.8 yards per carry, tied for 1st).

Given Buffalo’s offense, Glenn will definitely have the opportunity to make up for any shortcomings he may have in terms of run blocking. Buffalo ran the ball 509 times in 2015, putting them 17 carries behind the league leading Carolina Panthers.

Buffalo is hopeful that their long-time search for a franchise quarterback is finally over, now that Tyrod Taylor is around. While Taylor hasn’t shown enough yet to prove himself worthy of that title, with Glenn protecting his blind-side, he’ll have a good shot to do so.
