Mark Sanchez is heading back to the NFC East after agreeing to sign with the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite the surprise emergence of Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys they were in desperate need of another quarterback due to the serious injuries of Tony Romo and Kellen Moore. With teams trimming down their roster and making big cuts, it appears the Cowboys have found their answer in former Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos quarterback Mark Sanchez.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday how Dallas plans on signing Sanchez after the veteran quarterback failed to earn a roster spot as a member of the Broncos. Sanchez was traded to Denver from Philadelphia during the offseason and he seemed to be a lock for the starting job at quarterback with Peyton Manning joining retirement.

Instead, Sanchez will spend the 2016 with a completely different team and be considered a backup option in case things fail to work out with Prescott.

Sadly, this move shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone when considering the lack of options for Dallas when it comes to backup quarterback. But at least Sanchez seems to be a better option than someone like Michael Vick or Tim Tebow. For the sake of the Cowboys and their fans, let’s hope Sanchez never has to step foot on the field during a regular season game and the quarterback just stays on the sidelines for all of 2016.

Otherwise, the Cowboys will most likely experience the same level of disappointment from Sanchez as the Eagles and Broncos. Such is life when you sign the former USC quarterback of butt-fumble fame.
