Gus Bradley’s time with the Jacksonville Jaguars needs to come to a merciful end sooner rather than later

Gus Bradley was hired in 2013 to be the Jacksonville Jaguars’ fourth coach since their inaugural season in 1995. Bradley was one of the most sought after head coaches after serving asdefensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks from 2009-12. Many praised and applauded the Jaguars move. Four years in, nobody is doing that now.

Now, many are asking a resounding question: how are the Jacksonville Jaguars still employing Gus Bradley?

The Jaguars were the trendy pick to win their first division title since 1999 and clinch their first playoff birth since 2007. In Week 1, the Jaguars looked good against MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers and Super Bowl favorites Green Bay. Though the team had to head West for a matchup against the San Diego Chargers, the team looked to be catching Philip Rivers and company at the right time.

Keenan Allen was lost for the season in a Week 1 showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers also managed to blow a 27-10 lead in that first game of the year to lose to their division rivals. Like most of Gus Bradley’s teams during his tenure, the Jaguars still looked unprepared and played poorly in the team’s 38-14 loss. It was 21-0 at halftime and 35-0 at the end of the third.

This might be the most demoralizing loss of Gus Bradley’s tenure, given the expectations and high hopes the team and fans had going into the season.

The loss brings Gus Bradley’s record to a 12-38. That’s close to the worst in NFL history.

It gets worse for Bradley.

It also looks like Bradley has lost control of the team. Check out Jared Odrick losing it in the second half.

Players are even questioning the coaching.

This is Year 4 with Bradley and it’s looking a lot like his first year in 2013. The team should not be getting blown out against an average Chargers team.

General manager Dave Caldwell has surrounded Gus Bradley with young, emerging, and promising players. The roster includes the likes of Blake Bortles, Telvin Smith, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, Malik Jackson, Jalen Ramsey and Myles Jack.

Myles Jack, had it not been for knee concerns, was arguably the top prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft. Dave Caldwell somehow managed to land the top two players in the draft with Ramsey and Jack. Jack didn’t play until the fourth quarter yesterday.

Why?

If the team is going to get blown out, I’d rather it be with Myles Jack playing and learning than with Paul Posluszny. Even Hayes Pullard played before Jack. You have to find a way to get Jack on the field. You started Bortles before he was ready. Why not Jack?

It’s clear with this much talent it all comes down to coaching. This is an above average roster. A team that could go 500 or better. However, Bradley is taking them to another 4-12 or 5-11 record.

Gus Bradley has two more games to salvage the Jacksonville Jaguars season before their bye in Week 5. If they go 0-4 heading into the bye, he needs to go. The fans lost faith in Bradley way back in 2015. At least give them hope the remainder of the season and can him. They deserve it!
