Julio Jones Hits 300 Yards Receiving On 75-Yard Touchdown (Video)
Julio Jones became the sixth receiver in NFL history to have 300 yards receiving in a game thanks to a monster 75-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter
What Atlanta Falcons star receiver Julio Jones did to the Carolina Panthers in Week 4 is illegal in 48 states (I’m pretty sure). Right from the jump, the versatile and virtually unstoppable wideout began wreaking havoc. In the first half, he totaled 170 yards receiving on seven catches, but still didn’t have a touchdown to his credit. In the fourth quarter with the visiting Panthers trying to come back, though, Jones decided to deliver the knockout punch.
As he’d done numerous times in the game, he beat his coverage and broke to the inside of the field. Matt Ryan found him on the crossing route and Jones went to work. He blew by the first few players before powering past another. Once at the right sideline, it was all about pure, nasty speed and Julio Jones has plenty of that. He sped up the field and no one was going to catch him.
Crossing into the end zone, Jones completed the 75-yard touchdown grab to put him at 300 ayrds receiving for the day:
Calling Julio Jones a monster doesn’t do him any justice. He’s been that dominant and scary on the field on Sunday against the Panthers.
His 300 yards receiving are a Falcons franchise record, as are Ryan’s 504 yards passing. Moreover, Jones became just the sixth receiver in NFL history to hit the 300-yard mark. However, he did fall just shy of the NFL record for receiving yards in a single-game, which is 336 yards.
