When the Washington Redskins needed some magic, Jay Gruden and Kirk Cousins pulled a trick on Jim Caldwell’s Detroit Lions.

The Washington Redskins came into the fourth quarter down 10-3, but we always knew they would take the lead and do their best to make this another dramatic finish for the Detroit Lions. Even though they lost Josh Norman for the remainder of the game with a concussion, the Redskins continued to keep the Lions offense quiet, and took a late 17-13 lead in the fourth quarter.

That lead comes courtesy of a rushing touchdown by Kirk Cousins, who helped out fantasy owners further after throwing a one-yard toss to Robert Kelley for Washington’s first touchdown of the game.

Out of all the ways the Redskins could have conceivably scored from 19 yards out, I highly doubt the read option was in the Lions top ten scenarios. Cousins saw the defensive end going after his running back, he kept it, and he had enough speed in the open field to get into the end zone. Glover Quin did his best to stop him short, but Cousins was not going to be denied.

Cousins was  the star of the show on Sunday, completing 29-of36 passes for nearly 300 yards and a touchdown. It was another sharp performance from a man looking to score a truly big payday in the future, and it will be important for him to pull out a win.

Unfortunately for Captain Kirk, the Lions took the lead extremely late in the fourth quarter.. Matthew Stafford finally decided to be a hero, throwing a touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin to give Detroit a 20-17 lead that they should not lose.

Cousins came through in the clutch when he needed to, but the Lions found a way to pull another win out of nowhere.
