Matthew Stafford showed off the clutch-gene with a game-winning touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin

I can’t think of a quarterback who has been in more last-gasp wins than Detroit Lions signal-caller Matthew Stafford, and he provided us with yet another memorable moment on Sunday

With about 1:15 left in the fourth quarter, it looked like Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins had completed a big comeback and won the game for his team with a 19-yard read-option touchdown. That score gave the Redskins a 17-13 lead after they had been trailing heading into the fourth quarter, but Matthew Stafford had other plans.

The Detroit Lions star quarterback marched up the field with a pass to the trusty Marvin Jones, a 14-yard scramble, and a toss to backup receiver Andre Roberts. Making full use of his weaponry, he turned to the most reliable option of them all for his 18-yard touchdown to win the game.

On third-and-10 with 16 seconds left in the game, the ridiculously clutch Stafford surveyed the field, saw that Anquan Boldin got open on the left by getting inside the corner, and watched Boldin do the rest.

Stafford averaged 9.2 yards per pass attempt with no interceptions on Sunday and his game-winning touchdown to Boldin was his only score of the afternoon. By far most of his yardage went to his two best receivers, Golden Tate and Jones, but he made sure to use players like Clay Harbor and Justin Forsett, too.

After this win, the Lions are now 4-3 and they have gone 3-1 at home. The fans will certainly have plenty of memories about this game, and it’s remarkable how good Stafford is at pulling off stunning victories out from the jaws of defeat.
