Washington Redskins: Jay Gruden Didn’t Know You Could Tie
Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden didn’t know that you could end a game in a tie in the NFL. Seriously.
To be a head coach in the NFL, one would assume that you have to possess a vast understanding of the rules. There are so many nuances to the game of pro football that knowing them as a head coach seems like a prerequisite to getting hired. Don’t tell that to Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, though.
In Week 8, the Redskins took on the Cincinnati Bengals in London. After a torrid offensive affair in regulation, the teams blanked one another in overtime. For the second time in as many weeks, an NFL game ended in a tie. This came as a pretty big shock to Gruden considering the fact that he didn’t know that a game could conclude with a tie score.
After the game when discussing the tough result for his Redskins, Gruden had this to say about the tie:
Gruden: "I don't know how to react. I didn't know it was possible to tie. There was a tie last week I was like 'how heck did they tie?'"

Truly, I have no idea how that’s even possible. How can you be a credible football mind in the NFL and not know that a game can end in a tie. Even crazier, Gruden is by all accounts a solid head coach. This just happened to be a gap in his knowledge, apparently. Now he knows, though.

The worst part about this revelation to Gruden is that the tie he never saw coming puts his Redskins team in a tough spot. Playing in the suddenly tough NFC East, not having a win and instead having a tie puts them at a disadvantage entering the second half of the season.
