San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Torrey Smith won’t play against the New England Patriots, but he is still supporting America’s troops with his cleats.

Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots is a big chance for the San Francisco 49ers to shock the world. The one-win 49ers lost in overtime to the Arizona Cardinals last week, but Colin Kaepernick, Torrey Smith and Co. deserve plenty of praise for taking an NFC West powerhouse to the brink. Last week, the Patriots were thwarted by a goal-line stand against the Seattle Seahawks and the 49ers will hope to pull off an even more newsworthy victory.

Smith hasn’t been a big part of the 49ers offense this season, but he is the most talented wide receiver on the team and the best playmaking threat. With the ball in his hands, Smith is capable of scorching defenses, and the Patriots have seen that firsthand plenty of times. When he played for the Baltimore Ravens, Smith used to torch the Pats, and he averages 98 yards per game and a touchdown against New England.

Smith won’t play due to a shoulder injury. However, that didn’t stop him from making a terrific gesture in warmups:

He is supporting the military with these slick cleats and he’s prepared to swallow a fine from the almighty NFL. It’s unfortunate that the Niners don’t get Smith out on the field catching passes from Kaepernick against a Patriots pass defense that looked vulnerable against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.

That said, Smith hasn’t caught three passes in a game since Week 6, and he has a mere 17/243/2 line in 2016.
