Oakland Raiders star Khalil Mack is looking for some more Defensive Player of the Year love, making a statement with this pick-six of Cam Newton.

Early in the contest between the Oakland Raiders and Carolina Panthers, Cam Newton punched the ball into the end zone for a first quarter rushing touchdown. It seemed like the Panthers would indeed give the Raiders all they could handle, but the 8-2 Raiders pulled off 17 unanswered points in the second quarter to make it a 24-7 blowout heading into the half.

The Panthers could still make a comeback, but plays like this were not helping the cause. In fact, they achieved quite the opposite.

There’s no real way to fault Newton for this one, because this is just an incredible effort from Mack, who is a physical freak of nature. Mack shoved his blocker to the ground and, in one swift motion, reached up to pluck the ball out of the air.

There’s no doubt that Mack is one of the best defensive players in the league, and he is spearheading a Raiders defense that is quickly becoming one of the most-improved units in the NFL. Much of their success should be attributed to Mack, who has eight sacks so far this season to go with the whopping 15 he put up last season.

With a better supporting cast around him, Mack may finally garner enough national attention to pick up even bigger accolades than the ones he’s earned to this point. This interception was just the first of the edge defender’s career, and while he’s playing closer to the line of scrimmage nowadays, I’m betting we’ll see some more picks from him at some point.
