With reports emerging that the Miami Dolphins considered Tim Tebow before signing Jay Cutler, it raises the question if anyone else would give him a shot

Former Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler ended his brief retirement this weekend when he agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins following a knee injury to their regular starter Ryan Tannehill. The move to bring Cutler in made sense considering he had a previous working relationship with head coach Adam Gase.

Of course, Cutler wasn’t the only former signal-caller to work with the offensive-minded Gase, and the word is he looked at some of those other pupils as well.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins considered both Tim Tebow and Kyle Orton — who both worked with Gase at one point in his career (as well as Colin Kaepernick who did not).

The most interesting name in the mix has to be Tebow. Sure, Kaepernick is getting all the headlines right now, but Tebow is by far the most popular player in the bunch. He was so popular that it became impossible for him to have a spot on the roster as a backup without his fans going berserk over wanting to see him play.

Tebow had stints with four NFL teams, but was most successful with the Broncos — after taking the job from Orton. There he operated with Gase as his quarterbacks coach and led the team to a post season run, which was followed up with him being traded away and the team signing Peyton Manning.

The left-handed gin slinger then slowly faded away and has since tried his hand at baseball. Currently he’s in the New York Mets minor league system and hasn’t said much at all about wanting to get back to football.

With Miami considering him though, it brings up the question if there were any other teams that may consider him. Places that could make sense include the Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills.

In Dallas he would be an upgrade over another lefty, Kellen Moore. Not only does he have more experience, but plays a closer style to starter Dak Prescott. The same can be said in Buffalo and Seattle where Tebow is able to create on the run like Russell Wilson and Tyrod Taylor. Not only can the teams run their offenses the same way, but he’s also arguably better than Trevone Boykin (Seattle) and T.J. Yates (Buffalo).

Of course, the problem with Tebow will remain that his fanbase may not let him simply sit behind the glass and be a break in case of emergency quarterback. Instead they could still scream for his entry to the game with every errant pass. Sadly, his popularity remains his biggest downfall as many teams won’t want to risk the circus that falls unless he’s the clear cut starter, meaning he may have to wait for another team to become as desperate as Miami just was.
