Chad Pennington Could Remain a Miami Dolphin

After missing almost the entire season in 2009, the Chad Pennington injury may have been a blessing in disguise for the Miami Dolphins.

It allowed them to hand over the starting job to Chad Henne, and Henne delivered. It showed the Dolphins that they do have a future at the quarterback position.

However, the Dolphins may not be sold on letting Chad Pennington walk this off-season as his contract runs out.

Recent reports out of Miami are that the Dolphins may be interested in bring the veteran signal caller back for a third season with the team. However, this time it would be under a different role. He would be Henne’s back-up.

The Dolphins discovered that the damage to Pennington’s shoulder was only to the labrum and shoulder capsule, which should lead to a full recovery. If Pennington is still able to make throws needed to be an NFL quarterback, the Dolphins would be happy to have him back, and he would be happy to come back.

If the sides opt to part ways, reports have it that the Arizona Cardinals would be interested in bringing Pennington in to back-up Matt Leinart, who will take over the starting job in Arizona due to the recent retirement of Kurt Warner.

The Dolphins still have speedster Pat White and Tyler Thigpen under contract leaving them with good depth no matter what decision they make.
