Troy Smith Wants to Be a Cleveland Brown

It’s a fairly short list, but you can add Troy Smith as a name who wants to be a part of the Cleveland Browns.

“He would crawl from Baltimore right now to be able to play in Cleveland,” Smith’s agent Ralph Cindrich told the Canton Repository. “That’s clearly where his heart is.”

Wow.

It makes some sense since he played at Ohio State and the Browns are shaky at the quarterback position. Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson are on the roster right now, but the new regime isn’t married to either guy and would certainly be open to moving both.

It might not be out of the question for the Ravens to move Smith to Cleveland, but the Browns might have to overpay a bit if they’re going to swing a trade with a divisional rival.

A fourth-round pick would be a bit high for most, but could probably convince the Ravens to send the disgruntled quarterback to the Browns.

Of course, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself as there’s no real evidence that the Browns want Smith.

“Cleveland has been on the up and up on this thing,” Cindrich said. “I did hear from a source there may have been discussions between the Ravens and Browns. . . . It would be the ideal situation to see if a trade could be worked out.”

Okay, maybe the Ravens are willing to deal.

My personal belief is that Smith will be a good quarterback and, behind a shaky line, the Browns will need someone who can run for their life.

Pair Jerome Harrison with a young Smith throwing to a couple second-year guys out at receiver and the Browns could have a dynamic, young offense in the making.
