Campbell Given Permission to Seek Trade; Bulger Released
By Editorial Staff
In the aftermath of Donovan McNabb being traded to the division rival Washington Redskins, many have wondered what would happen to the Redskins former starter, Jason Campbell.
Campbell has been given permission for him and his agent to seek a trade partner. The Redskins have expressed interest in keeping the young quarterback, but it would be unlikely that he would want to sit behind McNabb.
Shanahan is expected to further speak on Campbell’s situation at McNabb’s introductory press conference on Tuesday, but should Campbell remain a Redskin, he has $3.14 million waiting for him once he signs his one year tender.
Not quite on the level of Jason Campbell, but Marc bulger has been released today by the St. Louis Rams and is now free to sign with any team.
Bulger is no starter at this point in his career, but would immediately step into an NFL team and become one of the better back-ups in the league.
The release will save the Rams $8.5 million, which will turn out to be pretty handy in light of the fact that they follow the widespread speculation that they make Sam Bradford the number overall pick and would be handing him a $45-$50 million in guarantees.
Bulger could find a landing spot in Pittsburgh, his hometown, but there a more than a few teams who could use a solid back-up like Bulger.
Campbell, however, can start for quite a few teams in this league and with the right coaching could become one of the better starters in the NFL.
He was without much around him in Washington–aside from Chris Cooley–but still maintained solid numbers. He never wowed anyone with his touchdown production, but always showed a tendency to protect the ball and not throw interceptions.
If Campbell can find himself a team with a good line to protect him, something that he lacked in Washington, he can lead a team to the playoffs. He is very careful with the football, and with the right weapons, and coaching, will become a good starter. Expect Buffalo to make a play for the young quarterback.
