Seattle Seahawks Considering Trading for Marshawn Lynch

Even though it was Dick Jauron and interim head coach Perry Fewell who demoted Marshawn Lynch out of the Buffalo Bills’ starting lineup in 2009, it appears as though new Bills head coach Chan Gailey isn’t even interested in having to make such a decision and would like to move Lynch.

But, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports, the Bills will not simply give Lynch away. Robinson writes that the Bills “would be open to moving (Lynch) if a package included a second-round pick.”

It’s a high price to pay, but it probably means the Bills are only truly looking for a third-round pick, or perhaps even a conditional fourth in 2011 that could turn into a second based on production and playing time.

Robinson notes that one team, the Seattle Seahawks, have had “internal discussions” about trading for the embattled running back, which could mean they’re not sold on C.J. Spiller or Ryan Matthews in the upcoming draft. Trading for Lynch would then allow to Seahawks to possibly target an offensive lineman and a defensive end.

Defensive end has recently become a need for the Seahawks after they traded away Darryl Tapp to the Philadelphia Eagles and recently were informed of Patrick Kerney’s intent to retire this offseason.

If he can stay out of trouble off the field, Lynch would be a very good addition on the field. However, staying out of trouble has been a difficult feat for Lynch since he entered the league as the 12th overall pick of the Bills in 2007.

It’s unlikely Lynch gets dealt for anything more a third-round pick, but he’s certainly a guy who should have many suitors around the league as it’s not a question of talent, but more a question of keeping him in line. A hard-nosed coach who understands how to handle NFL players could probably get the best out of Lynch, but a “players’ coach” should probably steer clear of the talented-but-troubled running back.

With that in mind, the Seahawks and Pete Carrol probably would not be an ideal fit.
