The Washington Redskins, more than most teams this offseason, have seen a lot of turnover. The hiring of Mike Shanahan kicked things off, and Shanahan promptly began cutting overpaid veterans, then started bringing in other veterans to overpay — mainly running backs.
But, they are his veterans, and I guess that’s something.
And now, it appears as though the ‘Skins are willing to part with a few more high-profile veterans who don’t exactly fit into the team’s new 3-4 scheme. Albert Haynesworth’s name has been kicked around for a few weeks now, but the ‘Skins can’t even give him away at this point.
And now it appears outside linebacker Rocky McIntosh is looking for a way to get out of Dodge. McIntosh has said he’d like a new contract before the 2010 season, but that doesn’t appear likely. He even has gone so far as to skip some offseason workouts, and it appears that he’s now asked for the Redskins to trade him — something they will most likely have no qualms about doing.
Jason Reid of the Washington Post recently asked McIntosh if he had asked for a trade, to which McIntosh laughed and replied: “Ah, that’s between me and them.”
Which, of course, means “Yes.”
After seeing Santanio Holmes and Ted Ginn both get traded for fifth-round picks, I’m not exactly sure what the market is for anyone anymore. But if I had to guess, I would assume the Redskins would start the bidding at a third-round pick for McIntosh.
Any 4-3 team in the league looking for help at outside linebacker will probably make a call about McIntosh, so we’ll likely see what the market is sooner rather than later.
