This was probably a bit early for Sean Weatherspoon, who was slated to go in the mid-to-late 20’s, but the Atlanta Falcons fill a need here with the linebacker for Missouri.
Kyle Wilson would probably have been the better pick here, however. The Falcons need a cornerback and Wilson was rated much higher than Weatherspoon on many big boards across the league. It’s a move the Falcons could come to regret when they watch Wilson head to a couple Pro Bowls, but Weatherspoon could be joining him there soon as well.
At 6’1, 240 pounds, Weatherspoon is the prototypical outside linebacker, with the speed and tackling ability to go along with it. Weatherspoon is a good blitzer (12 career sacks), but he will help out immensely in the running game and will start in his rookie season.
