No surprise here as the New York Giants select the best pass-rushing defensive end available in this draft in Jason Pierre-Paul out of USF.
There are rumors swirling that Big Blue is attempting to move disgruntled defensive end Osi Umenyiora, and now with JPP on board that might just happen.
For all of his athletic abilities, Pierre-Paul is still a huge risk this early in the draft. He’s another guy who got pushed into the first round because of his freakish ability, but there are concerns that he might not be able to pick up an NFL defense well enough to be an impact.
This is definitely a boom-bust type of pick, and Pierre-Paul is either going to have a career comparable to Mike Mamula, or one comparable to Dwight Freeney. It will all depend on how well he picks up the game mentally because there are absolutely no questions about his physical prowess.
