San Francisco 49ers Select OL Mike Iupati 17th Overall
Ever since Mike Singletary became the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, we’ve expected the Niners to become a hard-nosed, smash-mouth team to reflect the personality of their coach. Unfortunately, they just haven’t had the personnel to run the offense that way.
But now, with Mike Iupati of Idaho on board, they will be able to pound the ball with Frank Gore and Glen Coffee the way they wanted to last year.
The 49ers are quietly assembling a fantastic offensive line with young Joe Staley already on board and the additions of Anthony Davis and Iupati in the first round. Iupati will have to work on his footwork in the passing game before he can be fully counted on, but once he does that, he could become an Alan Faneca-type player.
