Jets Give Head Coach Rex Ryan Two-Year Extension
According to Jay Glazer, via Twitter, the New York Jets have extended head coach Rex Ryan’s contract by two years and now have him locked up through 2014.
No financial terms have been disclosed as of now, but they Jets have officially announced the move.
As a big fan of Ryan and what he’s done in New York, I believe this is a great move by Woody Johnson and the Jets. It shows they have bought into what Ryan is selling, and should instill an even greater level of confidence in Ryan’s players, if that’s humanly possible.
Ryan was able to take the Jets to the AFC Championship game in his rookie season as a head coach, and the team has only gotten better over the offseason. As long as Mark Sanchez is able to continue with his progression, and cut down on the mistakes, there’s no reason this team can’t take it a step further into Super Bowl XLV.
And as I’m typing about Mike Tannenbaum and when he will receive his extension, the Jets also announce that he has received a multi-year extension as well. Tannenbaum, like Ryan, is now locked up through 2014.
After the fiasco with Brett Favre back in 2008, most would have told you that Tannenbaum would be out on his wallet come 2010, but instead he’s sitting pretty having built a Super Bowl-contending team and a hefty extension as a thank you for his efforts.
