Well, it would be hard to blame anyone who thought Kevin Kolb would be the starter for the Philadelphia Eagles Week 3 when they head down to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars. After all, Andy Reid did make it very clear that would be the case.
But, according to Andy Reid, that will not be the case. Instead, Kolb will hit the pine and Michael Vick will get an opportunity to see if he can keep his hot streak alive for more than six quarters.
“I think (Vick’s) play has even exceeded expectations over the last two weeks,” Reid said. “…You’re talking about Michael Vick as one of the best quarterbacks now in the National Football League, and I think that’s the important thing to focus on.”
Everyone, except Reid, was focused on that since last Sunday.
But it looks like once Reid sat down with his staff to look at the film and start gameplanning for the Jaguars, everything changed. Reid’s eyes probably popped out of his head once he saw what Vick was doing on the field from the angle we all got to see it on TV and from an outsider’s perspective.
And once he pushed his eyes back in, the decision to stick Kolb on the bench in favor of Vick was likely very easy.
But as for Kolb, Reid apparently still thinks he has a bright future. Or, so he says.
“This has nothing to do with Kevin Kolb’s injury,” Reid said. Kevin Kolb has done an incredible job for us, and the future of Kevin Kolb is not slighted by this one bit. He has the opportunity to (become) a franchise quarterback…This isn’t about Kevin Kolb’s play at all.”
Yeah. Whatever you say, Andy.
