Buffalo Bills Notch First Win Against Detroit Lions

And then there were none.

With the Buffalo Bills’ win over the Detroit Lions, the NFL is now void of any winless teams. The Bills had been getting very close for weeks, but finally were able to take advantage of Detroit miscues and notch their first win.

The Bills’ run offense and defense is what really made the difference. Fred Jackson racked up 133 yards on 25 carries, and their run defense allowed a combined 76 yards on 26 carries. That took pressure off Ryan Fitzpatrick, who threw the ball only 24 times, and put a ton of pressure on Shaun Hill, who threw the ball 50 times.

This was the Bills’ best chance to get their first win, and it might be the only win they’re able to get all year long. To finish the year, the Bills play the Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and New York Jets.

I believe it’s safe to say a 1-15 (or, at best, 2-14) record, the No. 1 overall pick, and Andrew Luck are in the Bills’ foreseeable future. Their only competition anymore are the Carolina Panthers.

For the Lions, it’s just another week of frustration for a team that is a handful of plays away from being 5-4 or better.

Penalties (11 for 60 yards) and the lack of a running game continually killed Detroit. They were forced to try to win through the air and, even though Hill has put up some decent numbers, he’s just not good enough to single-handedly win a game. He’s a game manager who needs a strong running game, and the Lions simply didn’t have it.

But while things continue to go poorly for the Lions, they finally came together for the Bills. Hopefully western New York takes the time to enjoy it while it lasts.
