Bob Sanders Visits Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills Next

The Florida-Times Union is reporting that former Indianapolis Colts strong safety Bob Sanders visited with the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, and will make his way north to visit with the Buffalo Bills next.

As pointed out by FOXSports.com’s Adam Caplan, both the Jaguars and Bills are in need of a strong safety.

The Jaguars were forced to start second-year man Courtney Greene at strong safety for 14 games, and the Bills starting strong safety, Donte Whitner, is going to be a free agent and might not be retained.

Sanders, when healthy, is one of the best safeties in the league, as evidenced by his 2007 Defensive Player of the Year award and two Pro Bowl selections. The problem is that he’s never healthy and has only played in 48 games of a possible 112 in seven seasons.

Adding insult to all of Sanders’ injuries is the fact that he will be 30-years old for the upcoming season. His age, combined with his history of injury, will have teams very reluctant to offer him any sort of guaranteed money regardless of what he’s done in the past.

If he wants to latch on with a team, he must be willing to accept something short-term and very incentive-laden. If he overvalues himself, he could be sitting at home by the time training camp rolls around.
