Tennessee Titans Claim Teams Have Called About Vince Young

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt claims that teams have been calling about quarterback Vince Young since the Titans declared publicly that they would either trade or cut the embattled quarterback.

“We have had some discussions,” Reinfeldt told the Tennessean. “But nothing is imminent with him. There is some (interest), but it is hard, though.”

It’s hard because the Titans gave up any leverage they might have had. By saying they would cut Young if they could not trade him, they limited the trade market severely. Teams might be willing to make a minimal offer because they’re afraid of being outbid in the open market, but that’s where the trade market ends.

Teams will instead wait until he is released and try to bring him in on a contract much lower than the one they’d get in a trade.

Telling the media they’ve received interest is likely a ploy to scare a team into making an offer for Young. There’s a distinct possibility the Titans haven’t fielded a single call about Young, but by saying they have they get the attention of any team thinking about pursuing him in free agency.

If they can scare one team badly enough, they might be able to get a mid-round pick for their troubles, but that would likely be the ceiling.
