Ever since being released from prison and having Drew Rosenhaus leap into his arms, people have been speculating where Plaxico Burress will end up playing football this season. There is a handful of options, but perhaps no team has had a player come out and endorse Burress more than tight end Chris Cooley of the Washington Redskins has done.
“I’m sure we’ll try to sign Santana Moss back, but we need a big-time receiver,” tight end Chris Cooley said. “We’ve got to have someone step in and fill that position.
“It’s tough when you get guys like T.O. or Chad, who have been what they are in the NFL for so long. In my opinion, Plaxico Burress probably is a guy that’s humbled such as Michael Vick was, a lot, in the same situation. If you were going to take a risk on a guy that’s a good player, he’s probably the guy you’re going to take a risk on.
“He’ll probably step in a locker room, keep his mouth shut, work hard and try to earn his way back into the league the first season.”
The Redskins drafted three receivers — Leonard Hankerson of Miami (Fl.), Nebraska’s Niles Paul and Aldrick Robinson of SMU — in this year’s draft. That adds a lot of young talent to the receiving corp, but still leaves the team without any real veteran presence.
Bringing in Burress could be a great move for some lucky team if he picks up where he left off and having a bunch of hungry, young receivers challenging you every day at practice could be just what Plax needs.
