Santonio Holmes Will Be New York Jets Priority

The New York Jets have a lot of big time free agents that they will need to resign to remain one of the top teams in the AFC. Player like Antonio Cromartie, Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith will all be testing the free agent market, so who should the Jets make their number one priority?

According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, the Jets will make resigning Santonio Holmes their top priority.

“I believe they will (be able to afford Holmes),” La Canfora said.” “From everything I’ve heard, he will be a priority. Look at what they’ve done in recent years with D’Brickshaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, stepping up for Darrelle Revis. They’ve done everything possible to keep their young core. … I think Holmes stays in New York.”

If the Jets are going to make Holmes their priority, what does that mean for Braylon Edwards’ future with the team?

“He is looking for the kind of big money that goes to top starting receivers,” La Canfora wrote. ”In what could be a very shallow market, chances are he will get it. The Jets won’t fight that hard to keep him — that tells you more than enough.”

So as it stands now, the Jets will fight hard to keep the Super Bowl XLIII MVP and likely let Edwards walk. However it all plays out, quarterback Mark Sanchez just needs to hope the team can bring back at least one of his free agent targets.
