49ers QB Colin Kaepernick Shows Commitment To Team

The San Francisco 49ers will be holding a team minicamp this week. It has created a bit of a schedule conflict, since the four day rookie symposium will be held at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida.

The rookie symposium used to be a mandatory event for all incoming players, however, the event was cancelled due to the NFL Lockout that we all keep hearing so much about. This year, the players union is holding an all expenses paid replacement event.

Scout.com says about 70 percent of the players drafted will attend the event.

One player who will not be in attendance is 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick was selected by the 49ers in the second round of April’s NFL Draft. Instead of going to Florida to be drilled about how to prepare for the NFL, the former Nevada signal-caller will stay in San Francisco and get a better grasp on the offensive terminology and system with his teammates.

Kaepernick’s decision to stay with the team and learn the offense says a lot about him. He wants to become the best player he can be and he’s doing all the right things. Veteran teammates will notice his hard work ethic and desire to get better. That will do nothing but gain respect for the young quarterback.

There is no timeline for when Kaepernick could take over as the 49ers starter, but whenever he does, moves like this will help get the team behind him and believe in him.
