Philadelphia Eagles Trade Kevin Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals
By Josh Sanchez
Well, as expected the Philadelphia Eagles have dealt backup quarterback Kevin Kolb to the Arizona Cardinals. In return, the Eagles get a second round pick and 2008 first round pick , cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Kolb does not only get a new team, but he gets a new contract as well. Kolb will sign a five-year extension worth over $63 million with $21 million guaranteed. The Cardinals made no doubt about it that Kolb is their man. It is a very risky move for Arizona to invest so much in a player who has proven so little thus far in his NFL career.
For his career, Kolb has thrown 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while recording a passer rating of 73.2. Those numbers don’t seem worthy of the contract Arizona rewarded Kolb with. On the flip side, Philadelphia is getting a very solid corner in Rodgers-Cromartie.
Rodgers-Cromartie was elected to the Pro Bowl in 2009 and has 136 tackles to go along 14 interceptions in his three seasons as a pro. It is clear which player has proven the most during their short times in the league.
Not many teams would give up a second-round, $63 million and a starting cornerback for a backup QB with 11 career touchdowns and 14 career interceptions.
Hopefully for Arizona, their risk pays off. Philadelphia, on the other hand, really made out like bandits. They do not have to invest any more money in Kolb and they receive some excellent compensation for a player who was going to ride the bench.
