Tim Tebow is Falling Behind in the Denver Broncos Quarterback Race

It was believed that the Denver Broncos were preparing to hand the starting quarterback over to Tim Tebow. The belief became even more popular when Kyle Orton appeared that he was going to be traded to the Miami Dolphins. Oh, how it all has changed.

Orton is still in town and has been at training camp with the Broncos. Tebow has failed to impress and is seeing his role diminished. To be more specific, Tebow is no longer taking practice reps with the first team offense.

Instead of competing for a starting job, Tebow is fighting hard to stay at number two on the depth chart.

“Tim Tebow is in a serious quarterback competition all right. He and Brady Quinn are neck and neck in the battle for the No. 2 quarterback spot,” wrote Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

Tebow and Quinn have been splitting snaps with the second team and Tebow has really failed to impress during camp. He has continued struggling with the ball and failed to separate himself from Quinn. It will all come down to a hard fought battle during the preseason.

The big loser in the quarterback, no matter how it plays out, is Tebow. He is losing out on time with the first team offense and the move will stunt his growth as a NFL quarterback. For a guy that needs as much experience as possible, the team is doing him a disservice.

Of course, there is also the possibility that the Broncos faith in Tebow as a starter was manufactured. Does Tebow really have what it takes to become the Broncos quarterback of the future or is this recent set back a sign of things to come?
