Dallas Cowboys Coach Worries About Dez Bryant’s Conditioning

For two weeks in a row, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has stated the game making big plays and looking like a future superstar. Unfortunately for Bryant and the Cowboys, he has disappeared in the second half of both of those games. At first, his injured quad took some of the blame for his inability to play effectively for a full 60 minutes. However, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett seems to have found another culprit.

Garrett has called Bryant’s conditioning into question.

“[Conditioning is a concern], because he hasn’t been able to practice and he really hasn’t been able to run,” coach Jason Garrett said. “Our training staff has done a great job trying to get as much work with him as possible without taking any backward steps on the thigh bruise, but that’s definitely a factor.

“Receivers need to be able to run throughout the ballgame, and when you don’t practice and you don’t run throughout the week, it’s hard for you to maintain the pace that you need to maintain throughout a 60-minute game.”

It is a fair concern for the Cowboys. They are currently sitting at 2-2 and will need Bryant to stay productive as they try to climb to the top of the NFC East. Without Bryant, it leaves Dallas with inexperienced wide receivers who have struggled early this season. Granted, Laurent Robinson did have a bit of a coming out party this past week.

Bryant has some time during the bye week to get himself in shape, so we will have to see if he chooses to take advantage of that. In the three second half Bryant has played this season, he has a total of 2 catches for 50 yards. That won’t cut it in Big D. Time for Dez Bryant to step up his game.
