Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo and GM Billy Devaney Out In St. Louis
By Blake Lovell
We’ve come to expect multiple firings on Black Monday in the NFL, and it now looks like Steve Spagnuolo will be joining Raheem Morris as NFL coaches fired today.
Word out of St. Louis is that Spagnuolo and general manager Billy Devaney have both been removed from their positions following an abysmal 2-14 season for the Rams.
When Spagnuolo was hired back in 2009, it seemed like a huge land for this organization.
He was the architect of some great Giants’ defenses, and coming off of a Super Bowl win over the previously undefeated Patriots, Spagnuolo’s stock was as high as it had ever been.
But for whatever reason, things simply never got going in St. Louis.
They were a popular pick to win the NFC West this year before the season started. And even if they weren’t picked to win the division, they were certainly picked to be the in the mix. 16 games later though, this team sits at the second spot in the 2012 NFL Draft order and with a very unsure future.
There are plenty of coaching candidates out there that could help rejuvenate the franchise along with their second selection in the draft. Names like Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher will almost definitely be mentioned.
But then again, weren’t the Rams in the same spot before last season when they drafted Sam Bradford?
Now, there’s no guarantees Bradford is their star of the future, and they are once again searching for a head coach that will lead them to a Super Bowl. Not too mention that they’re also looking for a GM.
This is like a bad nightmare all over again. Question is, who comes in and fixes it?
