Jay Gruden Will Stay With Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden was considered one of the hottest head coaching candidates heading into the 2012-13 NFL season. He was linked to numerous teams, but it came down to only one that mattered — the Cincinnati Bengals.

Gruden confirmed the news today when he said, “I’m new to this. If I’d been in the league 25 years, I would have interviewed. I just wanted to put it to bed and move on with what we’ve got going here. I was sick of reading tweets I knew nothing about.”

The real winner here is quarterback Andy Dalton and the young Bengals offense. Cincy was really starting to find it’s groove under Gruden and it would have been horrible for the growth of Dalton as a professional if he had to learn a new offense from a new coach in only his second-year in the league.

Come next offseason, Gruden will still likely be linked to head coaching openings. It will be up to him to determine if he is ready at that time.
