Jets Players Call Mark Sanchez Lazy; Want Peyton Manning

The mess with the New York Jets just keeps getting worse this offseason. The most recent target of criticism is quarterback Mark Sanchez and, unfortunately for the young signal-caller, the criticism is coming from his own teammates.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News wrote an article early this morning that claims numerous veteran players want Sanchez out. In fact, they would like Peyton Manning or another veteran brought to New York in Sanchez’s place.

One annonymous — how brave — player said, “We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice. He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched.”

Another Jets source said, ““Come on. That’s a no-brainer. If you have a chance to get a healthy 36-year-old Peyton Manning and you don’t do it, then you’re stupid. If I could get a healthy 36-year-old Peyton Manning, then, hell yeah, I would trade Sanchez.”

I have a big problem with people speaking in this manner without having the stones to put their names to the quotes. If you want your quarterback gone, step up and say it. Greg McElroy is only a rookie, but he had the guts to publicly come out and call out the idiots in the locker room. Whoever provided these quotes did not. There is a big difference and makes the one situation more acceptable.

Regardless of who said what, it will be interesting to see how those in the Jets organization respond to the comments. Is there a larger group of people who want Sanchez gone or is it just a few rogue individuals? We will have to see how it plays out, but one thing is for sure. This is the New York Jets. It is going to be interesting.
