Fansided NFL’s 2011 Season Awards: NFL MVP

A group of writers around the Fansided Network, myself included, submitted ballots for 2011 NFL postseason awards. The votes have been tallied and the results are in. What NFL players came out on top in the categories of Defensive Rookie of the Year, Offensive Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and the coveted NFL MVP.

Earlier in the week, we announced the recipient of the Fansided NFL 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year. Yesterday, we handed out the FanSided NFL 2011 Defensive Player of the Year and FanSided NFL 2011 Offensive Player of the Year awards.

Now, we turn our attention to the big one — 2011 NFL MVP.

The 2011 NFL MVP as voted on by the writers of FanSided is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers narrowly edged out New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who was named Offensive Player of the Year.

This season, Rodgers led the Packers to a NFL best 15-1 record during the regular season. While the team suffered an early exit in the postseason, there wasn’t a better team during the regular season and Rodgers was the man who led the team to their impressive season.

Rodgers finished the 2011 NFL season with a mind-blowing quarterback rating of 122.5. Rodgers also completed 68.3% of his passes for 4,643 yards. Rodgers added an impressive 45 touchdowns to only 6 interceptions — he added an additional three touchdowns on the ground.

During the season, Rodgers was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month in September, October and November. He also received FedEx Air Player of the Week honors six times during the season. Rodgers threw for at least two touchdowns in thirteen straight weeks, which tied a NFL record.

Rodgers and his teammates can definitely do the “Discount Double-Check” in honor of being named NFL MVP.
