The needs of the Cowboys are definite, a team expected, to do so well, has fallen short, yet again.
It’s time to fill some needs! The stars on the team — Tony Romo, Sean Lee, DeMarco Murray, Demarcus Ware, and Dez Bryant — can’t do this alone. There must be some help and someone to rely on.
To begin, a back-up quarterback is a necessity. Jon Kitna has decided to retire and the Cowboys need a solid back-up. You can watch back-up quarterbacks go down like the Mars probe (Indianapolis Colts) or see them rise (Houston Texans).
There will be many quarterbacks available in the late draft rounds but a few key veteran quarterbacks will be on the free agent market.
The next position on the Cowboys line that must be filled is the center. The problems at center have grown over the last two years and it is time to cut loses and move on. There will be good centers, such as Jeff Saturday (Colts), if he chooses not to retire, and Scott Wells (Packers). Either of those choices could make an immediate impact in Dallas. The young blood that pours out of the draft could also make a difference, but right now I believe a veteran would be the best
pick-up.
While money is flowing in Dallas it’s time to sign a cornerback. Can the man in that position have Finnegan on his back or even Carr? The position has been fluctuating for the last few years as well. There are glimpses of brightness, but mostly it was dark and rainy. The Cowboys have been the home of troubled boys before, so picking up Janoris Jenkins, CB North
Alabama, could be a man in the wings learning from some of the best in the league.
Time to work on the defensive end position, stop waiting for growth and shake it up, force the boys in blue to step up or step back — there is another boy that has been in blue that could really grow from this team. Billy Winn, Boise State, DE, could be motivated to play at the highest level.
Money is always a great motivator Mr. Jones. The Dallas Cowboys have found themselves at a crossroad, and it is time to make changes. This team is ready to succeed, but is short a few key components.
