Brandon Jacobs Says Plaxico Burress Wanted To Sign With The Giants

Brandon Jacobs has confirmed the worst kept secret in New York – the Jets were not Plaxico Burress’ first choice. At Tuesday’s media day, Jacobs had this to say when asked about Plax:

"“Oh, no question, I know he did. I know he wanted to come to the Giants. We just didn’t think it was going to be able to be done financially. But he may be (back) next year, who knows?”"

Burress did not have a good year with the Jets — getting only 612 yards on 45 receptions for 8 TDs. This was only a little more than Mario Manningham, who was the third wide receiver on the Giants in 2011 — and don’t forget – Manningham only started ten games. What’s most interesting about this is there’s every possibility Victor Cruz may never have emerged for his breakout season had Burress been on the team.

Jacobs said he had spoken to Burress recently and that Plax was regretful of signing with the Jets.

"“I talked to him a couple of weeks ago, when we were playing the 49ers, and he was like, ‘This is crazy,’ Two of the teams he was looking at were playing in the NFC Championship Game.”"

With Plaxico Burress hitting free agency this offseason, he may still get his wish to return to the team he scored a Super Bowl winning touchdown for. From what Brandon Jacobs says, you kind of hope he does.
