Tom Brady is probably the most recognisable NFL player in the world. He’s got it all – multiple Super Bowl titles, the supermodel wife (who Patriots fans blame for not having more Super Bowl wins) and he’s worth so much money that he could start his own mint.
But Brady started as a sixth round pick. There has never been a better definition of a diamond in the rough. The difference with Brady was that this diamond was already almost cut into perfect shape and needed just a bit of a spit polish.
Ever since taking the Patriots quarterback job from Drew Bledsoe in 2001 and leading his team to a Superbowl victory, “Tom Terrific” has turned himself from a sixth round pick that the Patriots took a chance on into an international superstar who is the face of the NFL around the world.
His list of accomplishments is truly astonishing – he and Joe Montana are the only players in NFL history to have multiple league MVP and multiple Superbowl MVP awards; most touchdown passes in a single season; three time AFC Offensive Player of the Year; two time AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year; three time Superbowl Champion; five time Super Bowl participant (tied for first with John Elway); two time first team All-Pro; one time second team All-Pro; highest touchdown-to-interception ratio in a single season (9:1); highest single-game completion percentage, regular season or postseason (26/28, 92.9%); most consecutive pass attempts without an interception (358); most consecutive regular-season home wins (31);highest winning percentage of any quarterback during his first 100 starts (76 wins); most completions in one Super Bowl (32); longest streak of games with 3 or more touchdown passes (10 games); and most career completions in Super Bowl history (100), most touchdown passes in a quarter (5); most touchdown passes in a half of a playoff game (5), and most touchdown passes in a playoff game (6, tied).
Brady is the fourth-fastest player to reach 200 career passing touchdowns (he did so in 116 games), and the first ever to reach this mark before throwing 100 career interceptions (he had 88)
What more is there to say? Tom Brady will go down in NFL history as the greatest quarterback of all time.
