Player: Morris Claiborne
Position: Cornerback
School: LSU
Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 185-pounds
Positives: Extremely athletic, Great speed to hang with elite NFL receivers, ball hawk with 11 interceptions in last two year, played in against top competition in SEC, Flies to ball anywhere on the field, fluid hips and great agility, big hitter, breaks down for open field tackles well, Equally effective in run support, part of an amazing LSU defense, great return man as well, sheds blocks off wide receivers well
Negatives: Goes for big hit too often at times, does this weird wide base step instead of a true back pedal (can easily be fixed though), gets lost on crossing routes at times, will take a lot of chances going for big play, sometime loses footing
Draft Grade: Top 5
Overview: It’s easy to compare Claiborne to Patrick Peterson a year ago, and for good cause. They are both pure playmakers, ballhawks, and solid tacklers. While Claiborne might not have his size or return man ability, he is still a shut-down corner that should step into a starting spot and not spend much time in just the nickel package. Don’t let the 6-foot-0, 185-pound frame fool you, Claiborne is strong at jamming bigger receivers off the line and might even be a more reliable tackling corner when he wraps up than many others in the league.
