The top two quarterbacks in the 2012 NFL Draft class are set in stone — Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. Outside of those two, Ryan Tannehill is regarded as the next signal-caller in line. However, Tannehill injured his foot and was forced to pull out of the Senior Bowl — meaning NFL scouts have not had a good look at him this draft season.
Some good news for Tannehill and NFL scouts is now surfacing. The former Texas A&M quarterback says his foot is healing fast and, while he will not participate in on-field drills at the NFL Scouting Combine, he will be ready for his Pro Day and expects to be 100% by March.
“We’ll come back and push it pretty hard,’’ Tannehill said. “I’m thinking I should be getting close to 100 percent by right after the combine and we’ll really jump into the on-field stuff then to make up for the time I missed and get ready for pro day.’’
Tannehill’s foot was operated on by Ryan Anderson — one of the world’s best foot specialists and Carolina Panthers team physician.
“Dr. Anderson basically put a screw in there,’’ Tannehill said. “It’s locked down and I shouldn’t have any problems going forward.’’
If Tannehill is back on the right track, he will be able to showcase his skills just in time to save his draft stock. Tannehill has been discussed as a potential first-round pick and if he can show his foot is no longer a concern, he could hear his name called early.
